In this week’s edition of Learning the Venture, we will be taking a look at how athletes are utilizing newsletters to connect with their fans, share their lives, and discuss their initiatives and projects outside of their sport.

This is going to be one of the more “niche” topics we’ve discussed on this platform. Newsletters are an incredibly popular (and effective) means of sharing an individual’s or company’s content to their follower base, but oddly enough isn’t something we’ve seen from athletes.

Typically, when we think of how athletes share their lives and “behind-the-scenes” content with their followers, we think of video. Whether that be on TikTok, Instagram, or YouTube, following the daily life of an athlete outside of their sport usually will involve watching them in some capacity.

Now, what has inspired me to write about this rather particular topic you might ask?

Well a few weeks ago, well-known NBA player Kyle Kuzma announced the launch of his very own newsletter Kuz Kontrol on Beehiiv.

For those of you who may not follow the NBA, Kyle Kuzma is a fairly notable name amongst fans of the sport. He isn’t necessarily a perennial all-star, but he is one of the better players in the league.

Not only is his style of play exciting to watch, but his style and presence off the court also garners plenty of media attention throughout the season. While Kyle Kuzma isn’t the first athlete to launch their own newsletter, he is certainly the first of his stature to do so.

Now, let’s dig into what this looks like!
