HOOPS Review - Game 10: ABSG Reapers vs Young Goatz

Hey everyone!

I’m hoping you enjoyed your weekend, and happy Hump Day!

Oof, that was not good, like at all. Our two-game win streak was short-lived as we came up short (gross understatement) against the Young Goatz in our final game of the season. We were defeated with a final score of 61-34, so a positive I suppose would be that we didn’t lose by 30! Daniel Greyson led us in scoring with 9 points, with myself and Zakai both adding 8. Sammy Darrell on the Young Goatz absolutely torched us from deep with 25 points, and Dion Easton added a cool 14, to go along with their amazing night from behind the arc. So let’s take a look at where and how it all went wrong!

What didn’t go so well…

Like I mention above, this was an ugly one, not a great day to be a Reaper. Despite being blown out, the Young Goatz were on fire from deep and just didn’t seem to miss anything. There was a period in the second quarter where they must’ve hit at least seven 3s in a row, which saw our two-point deficit effectively obliterated. After that barrage, we were just playing catch up, and no matter how hard we defended or how many we scored, they just had an answer to us. Fair play to them, they’re a good team and were really on one!

What went pretty well…

Not to make any excuses, but we were a little light on numbers on Saturday. With only two subs it was tough to compete with a team who can get up and down with ease, although they really didn’t need to considering they essentially won by half-time. Unfortunately for us, with Nap having to work that night, Jericho being out with an injury, and Zavante having gone back to Texas, and Jorel still not 100% fit we were definitely short-staffed for the game. However, the first quarter we were really strong defensively and we were making smart plays on offense. It was the same kind of energy and intensity that we brought in our last two Ws, so it felt like a good start for everyone. But alas, Sammy came out guns blazing in the second quarter and from then on we were just trying to close the gap.

What to look forward to next game…

This coming Saturday we play agains the Splash Brothers in the play-in game, with the winner heading to the play-offs to face The Answer in the first round. We like our odds going into the game vs the Splash Brothers, considering we’ve beaten them twice this season and only lost our season opener against them. Forgetting all that, we are two different teams heading in now, so it’s gonna be a good game!

As always, I hope you enjoyed this mid-week review, look out for the next edition on Friday!

Enjoy the rest of your week, cheers!
