HOOPS Review - Game 3: Reapers vs The Answer

Hey everyone!

I’m hoping you all enjoyed your weekend, and happy Hump Day!

Oofph… That was bad. Like bad bad. Unfortunately, your Reapers have yet to win a game this season, and are no 0-3. The game against The Answer ended with a final score of 40-69, I’m not even going to go over the leading scorers since there wasn’t really any!

What didn’t go so well…

This was just poor from us really, with only 3 minutes to go in the first quarter we were down 9-20, we just couldn’t buy a bucket. This was always going to be tough without Jorel, who is our primary ball handler and leading scorer. Outside of Jorel, Kanye had to run the point which isn’t really his best position. Between myself, Zavante, and Kanye, we all excel receiving the ball on the wing or cutting off ball to make a play from a Jorel executred pass. Since Jorel is presently in the UK looking at universities, we had to make due with what we had. We were also without Jericho (injury) and Jadon (suspension), which didn’t help us on the boards.

The Answer (it is singular, I’m not misspelling!) kept making their shots and were a real threat from long range, and we could never string together good phases of play. If we weren’t rebounding well we were at least defending well, if we weren’t defending well we were making decent offensive plays, but if we were rebounding well we couldn’t score! Nothing went right, but I think we didn’t have the right mentality going in. The Answer are an incredibly beatable team and we actually match up quite well with them personnel wise, but we were playing not to lose rather than to win, which ruled us out from the beginning and we ended up getting blown out!

What went pretty well…

Even though we started terribly, we did hold them to a zero point scoring run in the last 3 minutes of the first quarter, entering the second quarter at a score of 14-20 which gave us a bit of life. We also got to see Kareem in action, who was our newest addition and he gave us a good presence on the boards and defensively down low. It will be good to see him with Jadon and a healthy Jericho. Unfortunately, we didn’t string anything else together and ended up chasing the game the rest of the way. There were periods in the third quarter where it ended up getting pretty close, but then they started bombing from deep and that was all she wrote…

What to look forward to next game…

Our next game isn’t until December 3rd, so we’ve got a nice two week break until then. By that time Jorel will be back, Jadon will have served his suspension, and Jericho will hopefully be fully fit again. So until next time!

I hope you enjoyed this mid-week review, and I will try to get something out to you on our normal day!

Enjoy the rest of your week!
