HOOPS Review - Game 4: Reapers vs The Chosen Ones

Hey there!

I’m hoping you enjoyed your weekend, and happy Hump Day!

Ahhhhhhhhh! We couldn’t buy a win if we tried! Once again, your Reapers have yet to win a game this season, and are now 0-4. The game against The Chosen Ones ended with a final score of 61-68. Jorel returned from his university viewing trip in the UK and ended with 19 points and 7 assists. Zakai and Zavante both had 12 and 11 points respectively, with myself and Napthali adding 8 and 7 respectively.

What didn’t go so well…

To be fair to us, this was actually our best offensive performance this season in my opinion. For once we didn’t rely on Jorel to score 20+ for us to have a chance, as noted above four players combined for 38 points, the most of any group of players this season from our squad. Where we really suffered was rebound (again), where we were out hustled on the offensive and defensive glass, registering only 15 boards compared to the opposition’s 25. Had we rebounded with a bit more intensity they we could have secured the win, but yet again we failed to rebound as a team, leading to numerous second chance points for The Chosen Ones.

What went pretty well…

Like I mentioned above, we actually did pretty well offensively. Jorel and Zakai executed the pick and roll very effectively from the free throw line, leading to Zakai’s highest scoring game, which was a great sign as he has always been someone we needed to get more involved. Zavante and I ran the floor really well, getting some easy transition points which helped our cause. Napthali also contributed with some very skillful wing play, and is growing more confident each game. We also held The Chosen Ones to three scorers. We held former Reaper, Mykal Glasgow, to 18 points and Akil Smith and Chae Powell to 22 and 13 respectively. While that is a lot between the three, their next highest scorer had 6, then 5, and finally 2.

What to look forward to next game…

Our next game is this Saturday, December 10th against the Young Goatz. This will be a tough game, but as long as we compete, we can be proud of our performance! While starting 0-4 sucks, we have competed each and every game, and we’ve simply been beaten by our own mistakes - apart from our game against the Answer, that was brutal!

I hope you enjoyed this mid-week review, and I will try to get something out to you on our normal day!

Enjoy the rest of your week!
