How I like to stay up-to-date in the growing sports industry!

Hey everyone,

I hope you have all enjoyed your week and you’re all looking forward to a great weekend! I was hoping that this week’s post would be about the upcoming Bermuda Basketball League season, including a review of the Reapers in this season just past, but unfortunately there has been no further discussions on these plans yet. The last week or so has been a bit of a lull period as I made my registration for the FIFA Agent Exam and sorted some annual filings for the company, so not really much in the way of updates.

That being said, I think this week I’ll take the opportunity to share with you all on how I like to stay up-to-date on all the latest rumblings and developments that happen in our every-growing sports industry. Before we kick things off, I’d like to welcome any new readers checking out Learning the Venture! I welcome you to subscribe for FREE by entering your email below, and join our growing roster! Now, let’s get stuck in!

There are a few ways I like to keep in the loop when it comes to the sports industry, all being through online platforms. While social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter, and YouTube are nice for surface level news/trends, the following platforms are ones that help to keep me updated with what is going on in a variety of subjects within sports, let’s take a look:

TransferRoom

Following it’s launch in 2017, TransferRoom has been a revolutionary in the player recruitment/transfer space, for agents, director’s of football, heads of recruitment, and many more involved in this side of football. In a nutshell, TransferRoom is an online subscription service available to clubs and agents in order to efficiently streamline the business of transferring players between clubs. Essentially, clubs are able to search for profiles of players that they desire in a vast database of players that other clubs have made available. Agents can also make their clients available and also see what profile of player certain clubs may be looking for.

While my agency is too small to utilize such a service at the moment, the company routinely posts great insight and industry updates on their blog, which can be found on their website. This is a great piece of information to use with regards to understanding the football industry and getting a bit of an inside track on the recent developments within the sport.

Boardroom.tv

This one is probably more relatable to those who closely follow American sports, but the Boardroom is a great resource for anyone who is interested in the business of sports. Founded by NBA superstar Kevin Durant and his agent, Rich Kleiman, the Boardroom, their content ranges from athlete endorsements, contracts, investments in sport, entrepreneurism, new sports technology, media, philanthropy and much more. Articles are posted daily on these topics, and go as far as getting into more niche areas of the sports industry, particularly cryptocurrency/NFTs and esports.

The platform’s podcast, ‘Out of Office’, is also a fun and informative source of information, where Rich and a co-host invite sports industry professionals, entrepreneurs, athletes, etc. and discuss their business, investments, trends, and so on. Outside of subscribing to their podcast and visiting their website frequently, I also subscribe to their weekly newsletter to keep up to date on their latest articles and announcements. I definitely recommend this channel for anyone interested in the growing sports industry!

Training Ground Guru

For our football fans reading, I would be surprised if you have not yet visited or heard of Training Ground Guru. This platform is a really informative and education tool for those interested in football, recruitment, performance, scouting, coaching, analytics and academies. In addition to releasing new articles on the above topics almost daily, TGG also acts as a job board for football specific positions within clubs and associations. I always find this interesting to take a look at, as the football job market is always changing based on new trends in data/analytics, club structuring etc. giving some insight into how the football industry as a whole could be evolving.

Similarly to the Boardroom, TGG also has a prominent podcast where the hosts interview an official involved in football in some capacity. This is usually a Director of Football, Head of Recruitment, Chief Scout, or someone involved in performance, recruitment or analytics. This professional industry insight is always invaluable, and I encourage anyone interested in this space to subscribe!

I hope you all enjoyed this edition of Learning the Venture!

Until next time!

Peace,

Jason
